Silver Lining is a program of the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS)

Who can volunteer?

Individual volunteers

Strengthen your community ties through a planned visit to a nursing home, assisted living facility or state school/center. Read more

Whether your group is a school, a faith-based organization, or a civic organization, volunteers working as a team make an enormous impact on their community. Read more

While Silver Lining's primary focus is to enhance lives through volunteer visits, the program also provides opportunities for partnerships with businesses and organizations. Read more

 

How do I get started?

Please follow these instructions for becoming a new Silver Lining volunteer.

Step 1: Decide if you, your family or your group wants to volunteer at a nursing home or assisted living facility or a state school/center.

Step 2: Contact the volunteer coordinator or community relations director of the facility at which you want to volunteer.

Step 3: Complete the DADS Volunteer Application, Form 8653. Please be sure to check the Silver Lining option in the "Volunteer Interest/Background" section of the form. Please fax your completed volunteer application to 512-438-4829 or e-mail your completed application to Volunteerdads@dads.state.tx.us.
